Mechanism for Collaborative Efforts2013-2018 • Leader with Associate Award • Approximately $8.2 million allocated to grants • Research • Human/institutional capacity development • Associate award ceiling of $10 million • Broader geographical focus and objectives • 8-12 projects selected through NSF-style review using a Technical Advisory Committee

RFA/Proposal Development • Proposals need to respond to national priorities • Reports on national priorities will be posted on SMIL website • Larger team efforts • Spanning areas of inquiry • US, African institutions? Dryland Cereals CRP? • Searchable database for collaborators in Senegal, Niger and Ethiopia

RFA/Proposal Development • September • Stakeholder priority setting in Senegal and Niger • October • RFA distributed • Concept note phase 4-5 pages • November • Full proposal phase of those selected (no guarantee of funding) • December • Final Selection • January 2014 • Project team meetings • Contracts/Funding in Q1 2014
