Reflection of Me Tamara Steele
The Symbols of My Life Child of God Appreciative of My Legacy SuccessfulCareer
In Harriet’s Words “I was born a slave; but I never knew it till six years of happy childhood had passed away.” (Incidents In the Life of a Slave Girl, p. 1)
What Did I Learn? I learned that things are not always what they seem. Just like Harriet Jacobs, I had to be more observant of the things around me and not take life for granted. Just like she did, I had to find my place in the world and take charge of my own life. She was a natural born leader and I aspire to be one as well.
What Will I Take With Me? I know that when I leave this school, I am all that I have. I will take with me my ability to think for myself and take responsibility for my actions. My friends do not make me who I am. Due to my self-confidence, I do not need verification from anybody else.
I Am I am confident and determined I wonder what the future holds I hear my grandmother telling me, “Good job!” I see the broken hearts of my forefathers I want to make my ancestors proud I am confident and determined I pretend that racism doesn’t exist I feel the hands of the angels on my back I touch the moon and the stars I worry about the future of my students I cry the tears of those that came before me I am confident and determined I understand that there will always be people to bring me down I say follow your heart I dream the impossible I try my best no matter what I am confident and determined
