LONG- TERM SUCCESS FOUNDATIONAL DEVELOPMENT ESTABLISHING A STRATEGIC VISION MISSION PURPOSE FRAMEWORK VALUES Kip Miller 31 Octombrie 2009
COMPANY’S VALUE PROFITS CASH FLOW Long Term Success • To grow our businesses effectively, it is critical to establish a framework for long-term success. • Most small businesses want to significantly increase:
Honesty Being Positive Integrity Purpose Vision Self- Responsibility Caring Values Mission Long-Term Success Requires Developing a Foundation • Foundation is built upon a solid:
What is a Personal or Professional Vision? • A ”Snapshot” of what the future looks like to you • Consider your gifts, talents, abilities, experiences and passions • Jump into the future with your camera and take a snapshot • Come back and write down what the vision looks like
Why is Vision Important? • It comes from God. • We perish without it. “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” [Proverbs 29.18]
Vision Should Come First • Vision comes before resources, tactics and strategies • Business leaders often skip vision, mission, and values • They go straight to tactics and action • They want instant gratification • They just get going and keep going and going and going and going…
Vision Begins with Answering Two Questions • What do I want to be when I grow up? • What do I want to accomplish?
Establishing a Vision • Prayer and meditation • Dream about possibilities • What do we want to be known for? • What is it we’ve always wanted to do? • What is our maximumimpact?
A Vision Statement • Begins with the end in mind • Has inspirational value (God-honoring) • Relays a vivid, idealized outcome • States the best possible outcome • States what success looks like
A Vision Statement • Clearly defines your target • Is simple and brief, easily remembered • Does not include everything • An end snapshot of the next 5-10 years
Benefits of Having a Vision Statement • Provides everyone in the organization with a mental picture of “where the company is headed” • Helps to guide our decision-making process • Stirs you to put the necessary process and procedures in place to support the stated, desired outcome • Stretches the entire organization towards greater expectations and aspirations
Benefits of Having a Vision Statement (continued) • Creates excitement and develops creative energy among people • Is fulfilling—we are most effective when we are fulfilling our purpose • People survive and thrive vs. go away and die
Vision — Write it Down! Habakkuk 2:1-3 (New King James) 1 “I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer when I am corrected. 2Then the LORD answered me and said: ‘Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.’ 3 For the visionis yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come; it will not tarry.”

PVF150 WE HAVE THE VISION!
Why a Mission Statement is Important Luke 18:31 Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished.” • It’s what drives you and your organization every day • Keeps you and your team focused on ‘what is important today’ • Implemented properly and performed daily, it serves to assist in accomplishing ‘long-range vision’ • Companies whose employees understand the mission and goals enjoy a 29 percent greater return than other firms (Watson-Wyatt Work Study)
What is a Personal and Professional Mission Statement? • A precise statement of what you and/or an organization does • A statement of how you will make a difference every day • Should be applicable to the internal and external customer • Needs to be only five or six words long—short enough for everyone to remember
Kip’s Personal Mission Statement “To be a Christian husband, father, churchman and businessman in an evil and sinful world.”
And whosoever shall ask thee to go a mile, go with him two. (Matthew 5:41) Eastern’s Mission StatementCommitted to Exceeding Customer Expectations • Understanding Customer needs • Providing sacrificial service • TakingCare of the Customer
HONESTY CARING INTEGRITY SELF BEING POSITIVE RESPONSIBILITY Eastern’s Purpose Honoring God daily by demonstrating our timeless, God-honoring core values of…
What are Core Values? • Practices that we use (or should be using) to conduct our work every day • Characteristic traits that the organization wants to live out • Represent the persons or organization’s highest priorities • The foundation of how we conduct ourselves • Timeless and God-honoring • Help to explain why we do business the way that we do • What is “special” about an organization
Why Core Values are Important • Define and clarify who we are and what we unwaveringly stand for • ”If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” • Serve to honor God • Impact every aspect of our organization • Guide us in making decisions • Help to establish priorities in our daily work
Eastern's Core Values
And my honesty will testify for me in the future… [Genesis 30:33] HONESTY – The Heart of Our Core Values • Defined as the human quality of being • Sincere • Truthful • Trustworthy • Honorable • Includes honesty to others and to oneself about one’s own motives and inner reality • Telling the truth – despite consequences • Fair • Genuine • Loyal with integrity
HONESTY - The Heart of Our Core Values (cont.) • Dishonesty’s victim is always a Person • Every honest decision strengthens relationships with our • Fellow Associates • Customers • Suppliers • When we are truthful, we become trustworthy • When trust is high, business moves at a quicker pace
He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his way will be found out. - Proverbs 10:9 INTEGRITY – A Value that Endures • An alignment of your word intent with your actions • Our words and actions tell the same story • Is NOT a sales technique or clever phrase that you can memorize or repeat • Built by overcoming the lure to be dishonest • Develops over time in how we handle large and small things
Real integrity stays in place whether the test is adversity or prosperity. - Charles Swindoll INTEGRITY – A Value that Endures • If you’re trustworthy in small things, you’ll be trustworthy in big things • If you’re a crook in small things, you’ll be a crook in big things • If you’re not trustworthy in small jobs, who will be put in charge of the store? • Greatest thing you can ever do for yourself • Relationships are impossible without it • Fulfillment is impossible without it • Impact is impossible without it
CARING – Impacting the Lives of Others Each of you should look not only to your own interest, but also to the interest of others. [Philippians 2:4] • Considering others better than ourselves • Not just looking after our own interest • Looking after the interests of others • Responding unselfishly to the needs of others • Treating others with kindness, concern and generosity
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God…for I am not seeking my own good, but the good of many... [I Corinthians 10:31-33] SELF-RESPONSIBIILTY – Holding Oneself Accountable • Accepting responsibility • Empowering Associates to act responsibly in pursuit of our Company mission • As long as a person is willing to blame external forces—e.g., company policy, service, pricing, others, etc. — they limit upward mobility
There is nothing better for man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot…[Ecclesiastes 3:22] Do all things without murmurings and disputing… [Philippians 2:14] FUTURE FUTURE BEINGPOSITIVE – Essential Characteristic of a Fruitful Life • A Mind focused on the is positive, attractive! • A Mind focused on the almost always produces clear thinking!
BEINGPOSITIVE –It’s all about Attitude! The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than education, than money, than circumstance, than failures, than success, than what other people think, or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We cannot change our past, we cannot change the fact that people act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you…we are in charge of our Attitudes! -- Chuck Swindoll
