  3. Definition • A mental image produced by the imagination. (American Heritage Dictionary) • An executives vision is the mental image of their command at some point in the future. • A good vision is far reaching and challenging. • Climbing Mount Everest is challenging but far from impossible.

  4. Components • A vision is made up of goals, which are made up of objectives, which are made up of tasks. • SMART Goals • Specific • Measurable • Aligned • Realistic • Time Constrained

  5. Importance • The ability to establish vision, or pick a destination for an organization is what separates an executive from a supervisor. • It is the defining factor when differentiating between strategic and operational leadership perspectives.

  6. Necessity • An executive leader without a vision is like a driver with no destination.

  7. Why it must be communicated • Your subordinates knowing why they are doing something can aid them in doing their task more effectively and/or efficiently. • Aids in achieving buy-in with subordinates. • Provides a unifying task. • Increases moral through sense of achievement. • Provides opportunity for subordinates to offer suggestions for better policies and proceedures.
