  2. 3 WAYS TO ASK YES/NO QUESTIONS • 1. Make your voice rise at the end of a sentence (Note: Your voice WILL rise at the end of ALL yes/no questions) • C’est ta famille sur la photo? • Is this your family in the photo? • Ça va bien? • Oui, ça va bien, merci.

  3. 3 WAYS TO ASK YES/NO QUESTIONS • 2. Put “est-ce que” (ess-keu) right before the subject of the sentence. • “Est-ce que” has no meaning – just signals a question. • Before a vowel, “Est-ce que” becomes “Est-ce qu’ ”. • Est-ce que Normand est canadien? • Est-ce qu’il est canadien?

Add the expression “n’est-ce pas” (ness pah) to the end of a sentence. • N’est-ce pas means “isn’t that so”, and can be translated in a few different ways. • C’est ta soeur, n’est-ce pas? • She’s your sister, isn’t she? She’s your sister, right? • Vous venez du Mexique? • You’re from Mexico, aren’t you?

  6. INFORMATIONAL ?’S Où est-ce que tu vas? Where are you going? Avec qui est-ce que tu joues au tennis? With whom are you playing tennis?
