Goals for creating the children’s company • Supply flower and vegetable seedlings to Dalnegorsk region. • Provide flower seedlings for orphanage flower beds, MUSOSh 12, organizations and people of Dalnegorsk city. • Provide greens (onions, dill, salads) to the orphanage cafeteria. • Attract orphanage children to work. • Gain experience in entrepreneurship. • Familiarize children with basics of market economy, management and marketing.. • Foster accountability and independence in children.

Main types of activities are growing and distribution of seedlings of tomatoes, cabbage and flowers in open soil and in hot houses.. • Vegetable cultures: • Tomatoes (seedlings); • Cabbage (seedlings); • Onions (greens); • Dill (greens); • Salads (green). • Flower Cultures: • Zinnias; • Marigolds; • Asters; • Snapdragons; • Dahlias.

  6. Financial Strategy 10800 rubles were required to launch this project. Ascent Russian Orphan Aid Foundation donated needed funds and supplies. Main customers are people and organizations of the district, the orphanage, school #12. The product is in great demand.

  7. Preparation Work:1. Preparation of 170 sq. meters of land;2. Preparation of soil;3. Fortifying soil with organic fertilizer;4. Planning and marking plots ;5. Establishing of 20 sq. meters of hot house space;6. Purchasing of equipment and chemicals;7. Purchasing seeds.

  8. Company’s products:1. Cabbage seedlings brands: “White Russian”, “Krumon”, “SB-3F1”, “Storm”. These have 4-5 leaves, 10-12 cm in height and well developed root system. Seedlings are stout, low height, not stretched out, not pampered and completely healthy. All of it was grown in open soil.2. Tomato seedlings “Marx”, “Chabarovsky Pink”, “Beauty of Russia”, Oack”. 12-15 cm in height with well developed root system. It is grown in hot houses.

  10. Following results were achieved by the company Produced and Distributed: Seedlings of vegetables - Cabbage - 4120 pc. (3 rubles per) Tomatoes - 1400 pc. (1.5 rubles per) Seedlings of flowers - grown – 19800 pc. distributed 8707 pc. (0.15 rubles per) Income Grand Total 11686 rubles. Given out flower seedlings ( summer camp, school, city) - 7000 pc. Planted at the orphanage - 4100 pc.

Children who worked on the project - 17 (5 of them are permanent members) • Hourly pay - 28.85 rubles/hour • Total hours of work - 200 hours Income distribution: (This project was financed by a grant, thus gross income is the total profit). Meeting of presidents and vice president have decreed on the following: 70 % - will be paid out to workers and consultants – 8180 rubles: (65% hourly labor – 7771 rubles, 5% - bonus fund to pay for work on flower beds year around – 409 rubles.) 30% - to develop the projectа for year 2008 (seeds, fertilizer, plastic) - 3506 rubles

  15. In 2006, children’s company started to make baby steps in growing seedlings and entering the market. Children and staff became confident in this venture’s success.The main goal was accomplished – to teach children to work, to help them understand that money can be had through honest labor. The experience and skills in working, in agriculture and management will serve children well in their future. Staff, consultants and children have great plans for 2007. They would like to expand, develop and strengthen the business, involve more children in collective work. In 2007, we are planning to register company Sprout in regional public organization Junior Achievement.
