Welcome to our staff meeting. April 6, 2011 3:15pm StacyMaynard
Purpose: The purpose for our meeting is to begin the process of developing a shared vision for our school. It is my goal to develop a school vision in collaboration with you, and then communicate the vision with our learning community.
Currently: MISSION STATEMENT The staff of the Ida Elementary School will strive to build a solid foundation for learning. We believe our goal is to develop our students’ capabilities and interests in learning, in order that they will continue to grow intellectually and personally throughout their lives. This is a great mission statement but its focus is what we do every day. Our vision will imagine how our mission will be fulfilled in the future.
Vision Developing a vision is the first step in developing a more effective school, it describes the school we seek to become. Identifying where we want to go in relation to where we are is the key to identifying those areas where we need to improve. Creating a shared vision requires staff and other stakeholders to identify and share your core beliefs and describe how your ideal school would look.
Culture & Climate Communicate & Collaborate Staff Students Unity Administration Community Assess & Evaluate Curriculum & Instruction
Culture & Climate *Our culture is based on the past experiences of our families, the community and all of us. *Our ambition establishes the climate in our building; or, how people perceive our school. *You need to have a voice to help make the building culture open for everyone. *I suggest part of our vision consider your shared values, ideas, and ideals. This will help contribute a personal note to our future. Staff *Trust and respect; necessary for a positive learning environment. Communication & Collaboration Establish Open Communication We will keep abreast on what is functioning at different levels in the building. I suggest identifying ways we can use technology to open communication channels. Also, as we collaborate, how are we going to provide feedback so we are heard but not threatened? Staff Move as a UNITY toward our vision! Administration Students Unity Community
Curriculum & Instruction *New Standards: *What impact could this have on our school culture and climate? *How might the new standards impact your curriculum & instruction? *How can we ensure our vision integrates best practices about teaching and learning? *This section of our school vision will require training and time for evaluation, development, implementation, assessment and re-evaluation. Staff *Success is dependent on goals established by building and district. Administration Students Unity Community
Assess & Evaluate • * Curriculum • * Student Achievement • * District and building goals • * Our Vision • This will require efficiently using our time and all of us remaining • focused on our goals. Staff Unity Administration Students Community

Last Word For Today’s Meeting A school that can identify its core beliefs and values has created an empowering framework for monitoring how well the school is doing and whether individual strategies and activities are aligned with the core values.
