  1. Welcome to First Grade! Mrs. Manwell

  2. Welcome to our classroom! • Please sign in at the back table next to your child’s name. • Take a look around the classroom. • Find your child’s desk and take the green folder home with you tonight. • Please read through the information and return the forms on the first day of school with your child. • School starts at 8:30 am and ends at 3:21 pm

  3. Supply List • Earbud (headphones) for computers • Elmer’s glue • Pencils • Book bag • Color pencils • Erasers • Crayons (24) • Metal scissors • Pencil box • Box of Kleenex to share • Markers • Glue Sticks • Box of gallon and sandwich zip lock freezer bags • Dry Erase Markers

  4. Expectations • I hold very high expectations for my students. I expect each one of them to work to their full potential and will push them to that point with your support. • Please help me help your child succeed by also having very high expectations • Students will spend a lot of time in our room working independently and with partners while I work with small groups of students. I expect them to do their best while working at all times.

  5. Class Rules • Be Responsible • Be Respectful • Be Safe • Try your best!

  6. Behavior- PBIS • Daily behavior reports sent home in green folder- please initial each night • Pink - Outstanding! Students who reach the pink level will be rewarded for their positive choices. • Purple - Great Choice! Students who continue to make positive choices move up to the purple level. They are one step closer to having outstanding classroom behavior! • Blue - Good Choice! Students who make positive choices will receive recognition as they move up the chart. • Green - Ready to Learn! Everyone starts the day “Ready to Learn”! Students can “clip up” or “clip down” throughout the day depending on their behavior choices. • Yellow - Think About It! Students who receive a warning will move to yellow. This serves as a reminder to students to think about the choices they make. • Orange - Teacher’s Choice! Students who continue to make poor choices will move to orange and will be given a consequence. • Red - Parent Contact! If a student reaches red, parents will be contacted.

  7. Green Folder • Will be sent home everyday • Please make sure to send it back • Behavior Chart is in your child’s green folder- please make sure to check it every day and initial it please

  8. Daily 5 The Language Arts (Reading, Writing, and Spelling) will take place using the Daily 5 components. It is very structured and gives the students a ton of freedom in their learning. However, they need to make sure they are following directions at ALL times so everyone CAN LEARN! Here are the Daily 5 components: • Read to Yourself • Read to Someone • Work on Writing • Listen to Reading • Word Work

  9. Android Phones • I would love old android phones to convert to more listening centers • If you have an old android phone that isn’t in use anymore and would like to donate it to our room I would greatly appreciate it

  10. Homework • Will be sent home for math most nights (except Friday) and a book in a bag will be sent home most nights (except Friday) to read together • Homework will be posted on website each week • Please help your child complete it only as necessary

  11. Scholastic Book Orders • I will be sending scholastic book orders home throughout the year • Please order online if at all possible • No cash will be accepted- checks made out to Scholastic Book Clubs • https://orders.scholastic.com/J383P

  12. Birthdays • We will celebrate birthdays in class but please let me know when you will be sending something in • Summer birthdays can be celebrated as half birthdays • Please make sure the treat is precut or prepackaged and you send in any necessary paper products

  13. Snacks • We will have a snack break every afternoon • Please make sure to send in a healthy snack each day for your child (Please no candy, cookies, chips, etc.) • If you would like to donate extra snacks for those who forgot a snack it would be greatly appreciated • Water- if you would like to send in a water bottle for your child to keep at his/her desk when it is hot out please feel free but make sure it has a cap on it.

  14. Parent Volunteers • I always welcome help in our classroom! Being a part of your child’s education will help him/her succeed. Please let me know if you are willing to help inside or outside of the classroom. • Junior Achievement Volunteer • The PTO is also always looking for parent volunteers
