  1. Investigative Poll Report By: Abdulaziz K Al-Kuwari 9C

  2. World War 2 World War 2 was a worldwide conflict which generally began on September 1st 1939 and spanned 6 years. It ended on the 2nd of September 1945. It was fought primarily in Europe and across the pacific between the allied nations of France, Great Britain, China, United States and the Soviet Union. While the axis enjoyed a great start, they were gradually beaten by the allied forces with Germany and Italy surrendering to the allied troops and Japan giving up after the atomic bomb was used. VS

  3. Causes of WW2 The conflict stemmed from the Treaty of Versailles which caused economic adversity to Germany along with the Great Depression. Germany embraced the fascist Nazi Party. At the height of Hitler's power, he reorganized Germany’s military and emphasized on racial purity. After he annexed Austria and took over Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia, he invaded Poland which was a major event that led to the war.

  4. Question 1 Correct Answer Coloured Green • What did Germans have to give up in the Treaty of Versailles? • A ) Territorial Land • B) Military weapons and transportation • C) Starting another war • D) All of the above

  5. Question 2 • What is meant by propaganda? • A) Sending outlaws to concentration camps • B) Swaying public opinion, attitude, perception and beliefs. • C) Actions taken to address serious economic issues • D) Declaring war on other countries

  6. Question 3 • What is meant by ‘The Nazi final solution’ in World War 2? • To invade the allied forces. • To wipe out the weaker links of humans. • To financially aid the German citizens. • To maintain the peace between the Allied Forces and the Axis.

  7. Question 4 • What was a theory as to why the US drop the atomic bomb in Hiroshima? • A) Japan attacked the US, in Pearl Harbour, Hawaii • B) To put an immediate end to the war. • C) They wanted to experiment their atomic bomb • D) All of the above.

  8. Question 5 • One reason why the Axis lost World War 2 to the allies was: • The Axis were outnumbered by the Allies. • The Axis decided to compromise the war by paying for most damages. • The majority of the Nazi soldiers betrayed Hitler. • The Axis were bankrupt and didn’t have money to make military weapons.

  9. Question chosen for poll

  10. Poll Results

  11. Where results came from

  12. Poll Results The data tell us that almost half of the votes were correct which was ‘The Axis were outnumbered by the Allies ‘ . The answer with the second highest votes (25%) was ‘The majority of the Nazi soldiers betrayed Hitler’. The one with the second least votes (21%) was ‘The Axis decided to compromise the war by paying for most damages’. The one with the least votes with 7 % was ‘The Axis were bankrupt and didn’t have money to make military weapons’. The results tell us that Qatar and the United States voted correctly. The UK and India voted incorrectly. The total number of votes were 28 with 24 voters from Qatar, 2 voters from the United States, 1 voter from the UK and 1 from India.

  13. Results Origin • From observing the results origin, I have come to the conclusion that the highest voters come from Qatar. This was obviously due to most of the people I asked to vote coming from there. I also asked mostly from my friends and family members so that’s why Qatar has the highest. Other countries with high voter were from England and the United States. This was probably because of their high population and high internet usage which made it likely that they might vote. Another thing was that I asked users from Yahoo answers to vote and that might have been why some answers were from the US and UK.

  14. What was surprising? The fact that people answered with ‘The majority of the Nazi soldiers betrayed Hitler.’was quite surprising since the Nazi’s were known to be very loyal to their fascist leader Hitler. I think that many voted for this as it had included keywords ‘Nazi’, ‘Hitler’ which made voters think that it had to do with that and therefore answered with that question. What was also surprising was that the UK answered with ‘The Axis decided to compromise the war by paying for most damages’ I think that the voters probably didn’t learn about World War 2 or were confused by who were the ‘Axis’ and ‘Allies’.

  15. What wasn’t surprising • The fact that the correct answer got many votes wasn’t really surprising as it was obvious that the Allies defeated the Axis (which included Nazi Germany) and that many voters were students who learned this in class and therefore might have known the correct answer. The fact that the least votes was ‘The Axis were bankrupt and didn’t have money to make military weapons’ wasn’t really surprising as world war 2 wins and losses didn’t apparently had to do with bankruptcy which made people believe it’s an obvious wrong answer and therefore less people answered it. The result location data tells us that the US answered mostly correct which wasn’t really surprising since students were taught history classes and that the US was part of the allied forces so it’s likely they know.

  16. Recommendations In my opinion, my results could have varied if I sent my poll to other places to answer as my results were not an accurate indication of what each countries know. For example, if I were to share the poll to people who learned about World War 2 or possibly lived through it, I could have gotten more correct results. I shared my poll mainly in social networking websites, which skewed the results as people who are online weren’t there to test their knowledge but to be social. If I reworded my poll in a different and more easily understandable way, more people might answer my poll correctly as many wrong answers were probably guessed.
