Now in it’s 37th year, GOAL emphasizes the importance of technical education in today’s global marketplace. GOAL rewards the top echelon of Georgia’s 141,000 technical college students for excellence in their chosen program of study as well as character, leadership, attitude, personal goals and enthusiasm for technical education.
The 2008 GOAL Week celebration and judging for the next statewide GOAL winner is May 20–23, 2008 at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in downtown Atlanta, with the winner named during The GOAL banquet on May 22.
For workforce development and Georgia’s economy to thrive, the partnership between business, industry and the Technical College System of Georgia must be strong. GOAL celebrates the new age of technical education while strengthening the colleges’ associations with the business community. Since 1971, businesses have shown their support of this distinguished statewide awards program.
This is how the Technical College System of Georgia’s GOAL program works . . .
The GOAL competition begins early in the year when technical college instructors across Georgia nominate their most promising students based on academic achievement and personal leadership. These students are not just quick learners with good personalities…GOAL nominees combine these qualities with a demonstrated and active interest in their community. GOAL students represent the Technical College System of Georgia’s vital role in the state’s economic growth. Each has a strong work ethic and healthy enthusiasm for promoting technical education in Georgia.
During GOAL, a distinguished panel of judges, comprised of top executives from Georgia’s business and industry, selects one technical college student to serve as the state GOAL winner – the statewide Student of the Year and our ambassador of technical education in Georgia!
Technical college GOAL winners are future leaders who are looking toward bright careers while bringing honor and distinction to their home communities. The state GOAL winner is highly visible throughout the state, making appearances with the Governor, the Georgia General Assembly, and various education conferences, along with regular visits to the 33 technical college campuses. The 2007 Technical College GOAL Winners
The GOAL competition culminates in Atlanta during a week long, who’s-who event where Georgia’s business, government, and industry leaders join the Technical College System of Georgia to judge the finalists and celebrate our students’ achievements. GOAL Week recognizes technical education’s vital impact on Georgia’s workforce and future prosperity.
