  3. Systems • Common User Environment • UNIX • Solaris – 2.6; stable • Linux – Intel, RH 5.2 (2.2 kernel); growing; farm and user desktop; limited desktop support • HP-UX – 10.20; CAD, DB • AIX – 4.1.5; support frozen (very few) • Windows NT 4.0 • W9x support ends 6/30/00 • Macs • support existing machines, not new purchases

  4. Physics Computing • RAID - Symbios • Additional 2.5 TB; total of 5 TB • Host (stage, cache; 1TB) and network (work; 4TB) attached • Farming • 25 additional Linux dual-processors; total of 75 • 10 dual SUNs and IBMs still in for now • LSF licensing issue -> PBS? (talk later today) • Mass Storage – STK, OSM • Write code to distribute OSM across servers? • Enstore? Others? • Silo • 5 new 9840 drives installed; need local s/w modifications • Upgraded to Powderhorn robotics

  5. Physics Computing (cont) • Silo is moving +1TB/day; ~700 mounts • Currently 2700 SPECint95 • Plan to double farm this year; +50 dual machines • Interactive farm • 2 SUN E450s • 1 quad Linux – plan to expand • Mprime for PC CPU/memory checks

  11. Other Developments (cont) • DMZ implementation (yesterday’s talk) • Web services • From 1 central to 6 distributed servers • Linux/Apache standard configuration • Better flexibility for groups • Host/System management project • DNS • System configurations • User management

  12. Outstanding Issues • Linux desktop access to home directories – Samba? • LDAP - to solve • NIS Linux problem? • roaming profiles? • HEP directory • NT/UNIX • UID/GID synchronization? • password integration? (Passync didn’t work out) • Account generation • Future dual-protocol fileserver purchases? • Symbios? HP? SUN? • DHCP
