  1. Welcome to Mrs. Arbutina’s5th grade class!

  2. We are currently preparing our students for jobs that don't yet exist, using technology that hasn’t yet been invented, in order to solve problems that we don't know are problems yet.

Student Day - Morning • 8:45 – 9:00 – Unpack, Daily Edit • 9:00 – Broadcast • 9:05 – 11:00 Language Arts • Reading – minilesson, demonstration, independent practice, small group work, conferring • Writing – conferencing, mini-lessons, sharing, Writer’s Notebook, large or small projects • Words Their Way – word study

  4. Student Day - Afternoon • 11:00 – 11:20 – Recess • 11:20 – 11:45 – Lunch • 11:45 – 12:45 – Math • Begin with warm-up • Individual, small and whole group activities • Short assessment to check for understanding 12:45 – 1:35 – Special - Important transition time

  5. Student Day – Afternoon (cont’d) • 1:35 – 2:25 – C/E time • Band, orchestra, reading, speech/lang., AGP • Unfinished work • Extra help • Centers activities – KidBiz, word games, writing conferences • 2:25 – 3:20 – SS/Science - important transition time - switches every 9 weeks

  6. Homework Weekly: (Runs from one Friday to the next, due the next Friday) • CompassLearning • KidBiz3000 (2 articles, 88% or higher) • TypingPal • 14 Steps of 100 Book Challenge Nightly: Math, unfinished work from the day, long-term projects like Book Reports

  7. Homework Policy • Missed Assignment sheet • Sent home and/or emailed directly to parent • Must be stapled to overdue work • Forgotten homework • Assignment Book

  8. Book Reports • Based on a genre or specific book characteristic (Newbery Award winners, etc.) • At least one written component (summary, book review, etc.) with project • Assigned monthly • Can be turned in early • One grade level off for each day late
