IEEE 802.24 Smart Grid TAG Proposals for New Grid-related TAG Activities
External Interface Develop an external interface similar to that of “interpretation requests” for existing IEEE 802 standards. External enquires regarding grid-related application of IEEE 802 standards would be directed to the TAG
Case 1 • The question has to do with an application where an existing IEEE 802 standard exists and is appropriate. • Direct the requestor to the proper standard, and if further clarification needed, to the WG
Case 2 • The question is regarding an application requirement that is out of scope for IEEE 802. • Direct the requestor to the proper standards body or industry alliance. If an existing liaison does not exist between IEEE 802 and that organization, consider whether one is needed.
Case 3 • The question is regarding a grid application requirement that is in scope for IEEE 802, but there is no published standard or standard in development that applies • Consider whether a new development is needed, and coordinate creation of “WNG” type of presentations in appropriate WG
Standards “Disambiguation” • Develop white papers for cases where IEEE 802 standard appear to overlap for specific grid use cases. • Explain technical differences in the context of utility applications • Examples: • Currently: TVWS standards: 802.22, 802.15.4m, 802.11af, 802.19.1 • Future: 802.15.4g and 802.11ah
