Repaso – KEY GRAMMAR TERMS • Subject – WHO or WHAT the sentence is about • Felix washes the dishes. • Verb – The action of a sentence. The verb is conjugated according to the subject. • Felix washes the dishes • Conjugate – to change a verb so that it AGREES with the subject. • I sweep. Felix sweeps.
Repaso • A verb unconjugated (no subject) is called the INFINITIVE form of the verb • There are three “classes” of infinitives in Spanish: –ar, -er, or -ir • Ejemplo: bailar = to dance envolver = to wrap recibir = to receive • When you conjugate a verb, you add endings according to which “class” of verb it is (ej: hablar takes –ar verb endings while comer takes –er verb endings)
To conjugate regular –AR verbs • Yo -o -amos nostoros • Tú -as -áis vosotros • Él/ella/ -a -an ellos/ellas/ Usted ustedes
Example: Decorar • Yo decoro decoramos nostoros • Tú decoras decoráis vosotros • Él/ella/ decora decoran Ellos/ellas/ Usted ustedes

To conjugate regular –IR verbs -o -imos -es -ís -e -en

DECIR – to say / to tell • Decir has several irregular forms; only vosotros & nosotros is regular • digo decimos • dices decís • dice dicen
Venir – to come • Venir – ‘yo-go’ verb & stem-changer in the 2nd and 3rd person forms (cousins with ‘tener’) • vengo venimos • vienes venís • viene vienen
Salir – to leave / go out • Salir– ‘yo go’ • salimos • sales salís • sale salen salgo
Poner – to put / place / set • Poner – ‘yo go’ • ponemos • pones ponéis • pone ponen pongo
Hacer – to do / make • Hacer – ‘yo go’ • hacemos • haces hacéis • hace hacen hago
Traer – to bring • Traer – ‘yo go’ • traemos • traes traéis • trae traen traigo
