In the late 17th century a pantomime wasconsidered a lowform of opera, withitscomicsongs. In the 18th Century ‘Harlequinades’ wereintroducedat the end of the pantomimes. Theyincludedslapstickcomedy. The Harlequinadesgraduallybecame part of the pantomime and itbecame a show itself.
