Informer Administration Exploring the system menu and functions PRESENTER: Jason Vorenkamp| Informer Software Engineer| March 2012
System Settings - System Tab • Support email is the email address that the “Contact Support” link will default to. It is not intended to be support@entrinsik.com • Default system locale governs what format times, dates and currencies will default to. This is used in the event that locale is not passed by the web browser. • Default time zone is used to set the java system time zone, so that all the dates and times you see in data and in Informer are correct. Changing this requires a system restart. • Default pdf template is used to set all reports’ pdf templates that had not been previously overridden
System Settings – Mail Settings • Mail settings • Mail server: network name or IP address • Mail server port: the SMTP port for that server • Mail server user: the username of a network user that may relay email through the mail server • Change email password: check this and fill in the following boxes to change the email user’s password, in the event it has changed since configuration
System Settings – System Tab • Default from address is used for any schedules that were scheduled by a user who has no email address set in Informer • Admin user email is used as the from address when the administrator user creates a schedule • Change admin password changes the password for ‘administrator’, the super user for Informer
Active Datasets • Informer caches report results and application table results, like the report listing on the front page. This list shows what results are currently in the cache. Deleting an individual listing clears the cached dataset.
Export Templates • Templates are a great way to customize output to fit vary needs among your users • Each new template starts out with the default settings • The Page Setup tab • Allows customization of page size and margins • Orientation may be set to “portrait” or “landscape”, or can be automatic, which will make the orientation “portrait” if there are 7 or fewer columns. • Page Break in Groups will create a new page for each group in the data
Export Templates - Designer • Page Styles • All color codes use hexadecimal RGB values. Tables of these values are freely available on the web. • Other Css are CSS stylesheet values that may enhance column headers to add things such as italics (“font-style:italic”). CSS tutorials are also all over the web. • Header and Footer • Text Cell: Text and keywords may be inserted in the various available cells in the header and footer • Image Cell: Allows you to upload images and place them in the pdf template • New Row: You may have 3 rows in the header and 2 in the footer • Watermark: Upload a watermark. It doesn’t need to be translucent.
Schedule Management • Shows all schedules in the system • Schedule log • Shows all schedules that have run • May be filtered by date range • Can be cleared periodically • Admins can check the error in the schedule to determine the cause, if it needs to be re-run, or simply emailed to the recipients
User Fields • User fields are customer defined data about the specific logged on user, which may be used in queries to limit report results specific to that user. • User fields may be identified with a default value, and then each user may be edited with different values • LDAP users may have user fields defined that translate LDAP information to user field values, so you don’t need to fill out data for each user
Code Files • Datasource Based Code Files • Predefined File Formats • DatatelValcode • SEMtek Code File (System Builder) • Custom – defined for a whole file • Custom select may be used to filter unwanted code files • Informer Code Files – specify codes and values for data translation
Logging Settings Logging settings are usually directed by our support staff, but there are some interesting things you can do to watch the magic • To see what U2 commands are being issued log4j.logger.com.entrinsik.informer.uoj=info • To see what SQL commands are being issued log4j.logger.com.entrinsik.informer.sql=debug
Database Maintenance Backing up and Restoring the Informer Database
Backing up the database Offline Backup • To perform an offline backup of a database, use operating system commands to copy the database directory • You must shut down Informer prior to performing an offline backup
Backing up the database Online Backup • Run dbprompt located in the bin folder:
Restoring the database To restore the database simply replace the existing file structure with the backup: • Stop Informer • Delete/Remove the current db\informer folder! • Copy the backup into the db folder • Restart Informer
Informer Upgrades How to upgrade, revert, and test new versions
Upgrade Basics Upgrades do not have to be performed sequentially. You may jump from older versions to the latest version (as long as you are on at least version 3.2.4) If you have plugins, always update your SDK along with your Informer application, and make sure the plugins compile before upgrading.
Performing Upgrades Download war file from client site Stop Informer Place war file in webapp folder Restart Informer
Client Site http://delivery.entrinsik.com/client
Upgrade Backups Backups are automatically performed prior to updating the database These upgrades are stored in the upgrade-backup folder If there is any problem with the upgrade you may restore from one of these backups (be sure to also revert the version when you restore an older backup!)
Restoring an upgrade backup If an upgrade goes wrong for any reason, you may ‘undo’ the upgrade by restoring the upgrade backup database and removing the upgraded version. Stop Informer Restore the upgrade backup database, like you would any other database backup Remove the latest .war file from webapp folder Remove the latest directory from work folder Restart Informer
Reporting on Informer How to create reports on Informer usage
Reporting on Informer • You can run reports on Informer data. For instance you can write a report on who launched what report when, from what mapping.
