Following this slide are some examples of photos taken to highlight the elements I am asking you to take photos of this week.
Texture Can you imagine what each of these would feel like if you rubbed your fingers across them?
Shape • A silhouette of a hillside (by Tori Dotson) makes a strong shape The light and dark sides of these steps play up their boxy shapes. Note how they also repeat to make a pattern bringing the eye from the top left side of the frame to the bottom right.
Several Leading Lines The lines in the front decking bring your eye back to the far dock and then into the city in the background. You are following lines with your eyes.
Lines converging in a single point • By Lush.i.ious The only way to get a shot like this is to move your position. Those buildings are not moving for you!
Light or value This photo taken by CAPS student Matt Christenson, shows value and texture in this close up.
Notice how the contrast between the dark and light and the strong shadows makes this photo more interesting. Photo by Nathan Kitchen
Notice how the change of lighting completely changes the mood of this photo… Photo by CAPS student Nathan Kitchen
The lighting in this photo is what makes the moss stand out and the whole forest seem unique.
Can you see how the crosswalk lines, leading into the line of cabs, in turn lead your eye down the street?
Texture again… But you see the texture because of the back lighting….
