Let’s Get Started… • We know what rules are. What are some examples of important classroom rules? • What are procedures? Give some examples. Why are they important? • Anyone have experiences or stories you would like to share?
Suggestions • You will be required to enforce school-wide rules and procedures. • Keep rules and procedures consistent across your grade level. This makes everything easier when working with teammates’ students whether at recess, in the lunchroom, you switch for reading/spelling/writing/math groups, etc. • Use colleagues for suggestions and ideas for implementing behavior plans. This is especially helpful if behavior plans are not school-wide and vary across grade levels and classrooms.
General Rules • Be polite and helpful • Respect other people’s property • Listen quietly while others are speaking • Respect and be polite to all people • Obey all school rules • Any additions to these rules?
Teaching and Implementing Rules • Think about your preferred grade level…how will you create your classroom rules? Will students be involved or will you be solely responsible? How will you explain, teach, and practice the rules? Will you use punishments, rewards, or both? How will you communicate the rules to colleagues, other students, and parents?
Procedures • Find a buddy who is interning in the same grade level. Take a few minutes to brainstorm procedures pertinent to your grade.
