  2. I. World War II begins • Japan, Germany, & Italy form the ROME-BERLIN-TOKYO Axis • agreed not to stop each others aggression into other nations/territories • Appeasementhad failed

Nazi Offensives (Blitzkrieg) • by 1940, Nazi Germany overran Poland, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium • Allies (French & British) cannot compete with Nazi Blitz • Allies trapped at Dunkirk, France along the English Channel • Hitler’s mistake was to not attack -- Instead he attacked/captured Paris • 300,000 Allied soldiers escaped to England
