  2. Introduction How might people in different Christian churches describe the Holy Spirit? Who is the Holy Spirit to you? The Holy Spirit is God. He’s also a Person.

  3. The Person of the Holy Spirit How do we know that the Holy Spirit is a Person? • The Holy Spirit is called “He” (John 16:7,8). • The Holy Spirit is named “Counselor”(John 14:16). • The Holy Spirit has personality traits.

  4. The Person of the Holy Spirit Personality traits of the Holy Spirit are: • Intellect (1 Corinthians 2:11): What does the Holy Spirit Know? the thoughts of God • Feelings (Ephesians 4:30): What feeling does the Holy Spirit show? He feels grief. • Will (1 Corinthians 12:11): How does the Holy Spirit demonstrate His will? by giving spiritualgifts.

  5. The Person of the Holy Spirit • Actions: • He speaks. (Acts 13:2) • He testifies. (John 15:26) • He teaches. (John 14:26) • He convicts. (John 16:8–11) • He intercedes for us. (Romans 8:26,27) • He guides us into truth and directs our steps. (John 16:13; Acts 16:6,7)

  6. The Person of the Holy Spirit • Actions: • He reveals God’s Word to us. (2 Peter 1:21) • He can be tested. (Acts 5:9) • He can be lied to. (Acts 5:3) • He can be grieved. (Isaiah 63:10) • He can be resisted. (Acts 7:51) • He can be insulted. (Matthew 12:31,32; Hebrews 10:29)

  9. The Divinity of the Spirit The Holy Spirit has the attributes of God. He is: • Eternal (Hebrews 9:14) • All-knowing (John 14:26) • All-powerful (Luke 1:35,37) • Presenteverywhere (Psalm 139:7–10)

  10. The Divinity of the Spirit The Holy Spirit does the works of God. • He is involved in creation. (Genesis 1:2) • He is involved in regeneration. (John 3:5,6) • He is active in giving us the Scripture. (2 Timothy 3:16) • He is involved in resurrection from death. (Romans 8:11)

  11. Symbols of the Spirit • Wind (Genesis 1:1; John 3:8) • Water (John 7:37–39) • Seal (Ephesians 1:13) • Oil (Luke 4:18) • Dove (Luke 3:22)

  12. Experiencing the Spirit • The Holy Spirit creates unity among us without producing uniformity. • The Holy Spirit taps our potential. • The Spirit leads us in two dimensions: deeper into God and out into the world. (Isaiah 6:1–10). • The Holy Spirit waits until we invite and receive Him.
