Vocab Project Carlee Duggan (1-10 vocab) and Emily Havrilla (11-20 vocab)
Abstract Abstract items are not easy to understand, almost taken away from reality. This picture is very abstract because it’s hard to understand what is going on. There’s a random spoon and some glass and bright colors everywhere.
Austere An austere person usually has a severe or stern look or manner. The people in this picture have very stern looks on their face. They aren’t smiling or frowning, just a severe almost scary face. The gentlemen in this picture are most defiantly austere.
Banal A banal item is dull or stale from overuse. This phone represents the word banal because as you can see, there are many scratches on it. It’s almost as if the phone has been overused.
Capitulate To capitulate is to give up on prearranged conditions. This is a picture of the flight I took this past summer, flying into Chicago-O’Hare, but this picture represents the world capitulate because I could have given up on my prearranged conditions and taken a flight to Boston or Charlotte.
Cosmopolitan The word cosmopolitan means to have a world-wide distribution. My chickens usually walk around in their coop in the backyard, but today we let them free range into our whole yard. They haven’t been anywhere else other than our house, so I guess you could say this was their little world. Also, some of the chickens were in the yard and some were in the coop. Being so the chickens had a world-wide distribution.
Dearth To have a dearth supply means to have an inadequate supply, almost lacking something. As seen, there is barely any watermelon left on the skin. There is a lack of redness on the watermelon, categorizing this picture as dearth. My chickens love their watermelon, and as seen they are still pecking away at the inadequate supply of the watermelon.
Dour The word dour means very gloomy and even stern. This picture was taken later at night and the lights outside cast our shadows, and the coloring in the back makes the picture look almost scary and very gloomy.
Errant The world errant means to rove or wander, almost in a search of adventure. In this picture, all the way in the back is my sister. As you can see, it’s very far away, almost as if my sister is wandering away from where I’m standing, in search of adventure in a wheelchair.
Fecund To have fecund chickens means to have fruitful or productive chickens. As pictured, are four eggs, from my chickens which live in the backyard. My chickens are usually fruitful, producing two eggs a day, but today, my chickens laid a whopping four eggs! My chickens were very fruitful their first day of laying eggs.
Harrowing To harrow someone means to cause mental distress to or torment someone. In this picture is my cat, Noel and me. She was in my room and I decided to pick her up and take a picture with her on my laptop. As being a sassy cat, she was not very pleased to be picked up, and felt like I was almost torturing her.
Insular Detached, standing alone, isolated, restricted. In this picture are the students at NDCL who are being restricted to stay in the library until the bell rings.
Loquacious Talking, tending to talk too much or freely. This is a picture of my dad talking on the phone.
Montage Artwork created by small images, or overlaying images. In this picture, I created a collage of overlaying images all in one piece of artwork.
Noxious Harmful or injurious to health or physical aspects; bad odor. This is a picture of my garbage can at my home which has been known to give off noxious odors on hot summer days.
Nuptial Of or pertaining to marriage or the marriage ceremony. This is a picture of my parents wedding rings.
Penury Extreme poverty; destruction. This is a picture of one of the aftermaths of Hurricane Sandy. This is Todd Field, in Willoughby, where I have played many fastpitch softball games during the summer.
Respite Delay for time, especially of anything distressing or trying. This is a picture of my TV at my house. After a week of school, I enjoy the respite of watching TV.
Sophomoric Of or pertaining to a sophomore or sophomore group; immature. This is a photo of Mackenzie and me photo bombing a picture being taken of Carlee. We were so sophomoric!
Tremulous Timid, fearful. This photo is of my brother Brian getting tossed in the waves in Virginia Beach. The force of the waves was tremulous.
Unfathomable Not being able to fully comprehend or understand. This is a photo of my sisters friends that are acting goofy, and I don’t understand exactly what is going on.
