Conference Goals • Identify changes in the nature and focus of partnerships since the 1998 Wingspread Conference on community-campus partnerships. • Identify the mechanisms by which partnerships contribute to community development in addition to providing mutual benefits to partners.
Conference Goals, continued • Identify the transformative processes of partnerships, e.g., the degree to which institutional missions and cultures change as a direct result of partnerships between Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs.)
Conference Goals, continued • Identify the capacity-building resources needed by CBOs and IHEs in the initial stages of partnership development to help them achieve the potential identified as we address the other goals. In particular, we want to focus our capacity-building efforts around a Toolkit for community-based organizations.

How will those trends affect your particular organization/institution? • How might community-campus partnerships assist your community in responding to these trends and developments?
Focus Questions for Working Session II-Internal Factors Affecting Partnerships • In the light of your discussion of factors affecting your communities/institutions, what are the most pressing needs your institution faces right now that might be addressed by a campus-community partnership? • What are the most valuable resources institutions of higher education (IHEs) have to meet the needs identified by community-based organizations (CBOs)?

Focus Questions for Working Group III-What CBOs Need to Know • Considering the trends, developments, and needs discussed in the previous sessions, what are the most important learning objectives for increasing the capacity of community-based organizations to form and sustain partnerships with institutions of higher education? • What specific resources do community-based organizations need to meet those learning objectives?
Next Steps and Action Planning • How can we apply what we have learned at this conference to the development of a Toolkit for CBOs to help them to successfully engage and sustain IHEs as partners
