My brother Sami 11 years old , idiscoverd that he is smoker since 4 months.so decide to help him to witdraw from this bad habit, and he want that. • I asked him why he gain this habit? • He said"because all of his friends are smoker and they didnot give him some attetion and not deal him as a man.so this behavior(smoking):is muscular, glandular or electrical activity. • The reinforcement contingency which his response (smoking )is contingent on getting reinforcer(attention) resulting an increased the frequency of response(smoking).
Before after behavior No attention Has attention Sami smoke
reinforcer(attention):the stimulus whose presetation immediatly follows a response • He told me that he keep smoking even so if his friends not there to relieve the headache.so i take him to hospital to rullout if this headache is due to medical problems, the reports show that he doesnot have any medical problemsand this headache is due to nicotine fluctuation.
After Before Behavior Has no headache Has headache Sami smoke
this behavior (smoking) was proceed depand on removal of the aversive stimulus(headache) resulting in an increased frequency of that behavior.which is escape contingency. • Headache:is aversive stimulus whose removal immediatly follows a response. • After this analysis for my brother behavior i start to apply other contingency to stop this behavior. • So i take him to another school and i recored how many cigerattes he smokes per day. • He smokes about 10 cigerattes per day he asked me not to tell my father about his behavior because he will not give him money and he will blame him.
I start to decrease the number of cigerattes that he smokes per day. • Most of his time is inside the house and if he smoke or if my father smelled smoking smell from him he will punish him by presentation of aversive condition (blame) which decrease the frequency of the behavior (smoking) which is positive punishment contingency.
Before Behavior After No father blame Sami Smoke inside the house Sami get blame from his father
And i deal with my father if he he see Sami smoking he will not give hime his daily fees(money) in that day.Sami response contingent on the immediate removal of a tangible reinforcer resulting in decreased of that response.this is response-cost contingency. • after applying these contingencies the number of cigerattes decreased to 5 cigerattes per day. • I made interview with the social advisor of Sami's school, i asked him to give me his hand in preventing my brother from smoking. He give me this plane he will observe my brother and if he see him smoking hue will prevent him from engaging in the extra-activities which hold daily in school because Sami like these activities too much.
Before Behavior After Sami will engage in the extra activities in 50 sec Sami smoke inside the school Sami will not engage in the extra activities in 50 sec
so the social advisor decraese the response of of sami by preventing a reinforcer which the response contingent on it resulting in decrasing the frequecy of sami behavior. This is punishment by preventing of a reinforcer contingency. • This will happen when the teacher see sami smoke . • After sami finish his school i take him to our house and give him money because there is no evidence that he smoke untill that moment.
The number of cigerattes per day decreased as below: • Number of cigerattes /day during applying intervention using these contingencies
