  4. Present Progressive / ContinuousForm and Use Form = BE + VERBING Use = RIGHT NOW; continuing, in progress I study at DCCC. I am studying at DCCC. Sometimes, both are correct, but the second one emphasizes that you will change and do something else. I am working at McDonalds. I work for the government. Negatives = Put NOT after the first helping verb

  5. Unit 16Questions • Same rules • Negatives = put not after first helping verb (BE) • Yes/No = Move the first helping verb (BE) in front of the subject • WH = Make a yes/no question and change the answer to the WH-word, then put the Wh-word in front of the sentence.

  6. Unit 17 Imperatives • Uses the BASE FORM (be, eat, go) • Negative = DON’T be, don’t eat, don’t go • Please (everyone likes it; nobody uses it) • Use for orders, directions, requests, warnings

  7. Unit 18Can / Could • Like all modals, they are ALWAYS followed by the BASE FORM • They are HELPING VERBS (modals) • NOT goes after the first helping verb • Move helping verb to in front of the subject

  8. More Can / Could • This modal has a past form • I can swim every day. I could swim when I was seven years old. • (other modals have a different form that you will learn later) • I should study harder. • I should have studied harder. • (Also for possibility) • It could rain this afternoon.

  9. Unit 19 - SuggestionsLet’s / Why don’t we…? • Let’s = we should • (You and me) = we should BASE FORM • Why don’t we = we should • Why don’t I/you/they… ? I/you/they should • Why doesn’t she…? She should • This idiom can even be used with BE • We aren’t nice. • Why aren’t we nice? Because we are orphans. • Why don’t we be nice? You’re right. We should be nice.
