  2. Who Is This Teacher ? • I am married • This is my 6thyear at ECMS • I ride horses • I have 2 dogs • Buster –a Boxer • Shylee- a Minpin Most Of All… • I am very excited to be here and that ALL of you are here as well!!!

  3. Will this teacher treat me fairly? For Sure!

  4. What will I be doing? General Overview • Reading and Writing • Fiction • Nonfiction • Informational • Poetry (many forms) • Many Genres

  5. How will I be graded? You will be graded on WHAT YOU LEARN/KNOW! • Class work • Whole group work • Independent work • Partner and/or small group work (as much as possible) • Homework • Quizes • Assessments

  6. Guidelines For Our Classroom • 1.) Be in your assigned seat and working on assigned welcome work when the tardy bell rings. • 2.) Bring ALL books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave. • 3.) Please follow all directions the FIRST time they are given. • 4.) Treat EACH PERSON in this room with dignity and respect! • 5.) Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the ECMS and Estill County Board of Education handbooks.

  7. EVERYDAY the 3 W’s Walling’sWelcome Work • This is how we will start class each day. This will take 5-6 minutes of class. • As you come in each day the Welcome Work will be posted on the smart board. • Please follow the classroom guideline #1!! • Welcome Work is to be done silently.

  8. Guidelines For Answering Questions in Class • Wait to raise your hand until prompted to do so. • This will be approximately 3-5 seconds after I have asked the question. • Do not shout out answers. After waiting 3-5 seconds and being prompted to raise your hands, wait to be called on before answering. • Always be ready to answer questions when we are discussing as a whole group! Students will be called on at random!!!  • We will have times to discuss with a partner before answering. “Buddy Chat”

  9. Special Guideline • This classroom is a “No Whining Zone.” That means that there will be no whining for any reason. Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please respect the “No Whining Zone” this year. 

Classroom Procedures:Entering the room • Please enter quietly. • Sharpen pencils, gather any needed materials listed on the agenda • Review the agenda. • Have a seat. • Click yourself and ONLY YOURSELF present for class • Take out your materials. • Start on the Welcome Work silently and on your own

  11. Classroom Procedures:When you are tardy • Please enter quietly. • Excused: Place excuse in the basket on the orange shelf in the front of the room. Sign in and check off that the tardy is excused. • MUST HAVE A SIGNED TEACHER’S NOTE TO BE EXCUSED! • Unexcused: Sign in and tell why you were late to my class. (Three unexcused tardies and break detention will be assigned.) • Have a seat and take out your work and start working. Be sure not to disrupt class! 

  12. CLASSROOM PROCEDURESGetting your Attention • I will…….. • Stand somewhere in the classroom. • Raise my hand. Count down from 5. • Wait for everyone to be quiet. Everyone should now be waiting for further instructions. All eyes on me.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURESLINING UP IN THE HALLWAY • We will line up in the classroom • Go to the hall way and stop making sure all are together • Stand SILENTLY in a SINGLE FILE line • Leave a block between you and the person standing in front of you. Staying off of the blue blocks. • ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING IN THE HALLWAYS UNLESS TOLD OTHERWISE.

  14. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Student Responsibility Paper • You’ve Been Ticketed. • This is for students who do not have the assigned homework. • NOTE: I will show student responsibility cards to parents and administration if questions arise as to why you are not doing your homework!!!

CLASSROOM PROCEDURESMake-Up Work After an Excused Absence • Go to the “While You Were Out” Planner station • Back of the classroom door • Copy the assignment and/or homework given for the day you were absent • Get any notes from a responsible individual • Retrieve any handouts. • Make-Up Assessments will be given after school if needed. This is YOUR responsibility!!

CLASSROOM PROCEDURESBathroom Breaks • Raise your hand and hold up 3 fingers and wait for me to acknowledge you. • Have your student handbook hall pass filled out ready for me to sign. • You only get 3 passes per 9 weeks. USE WISELY! • Sign the “sign out” sheet indicating the time you leave my classroom, time you came back into my classroom, and your destination.

  17. CLASSROOM PROCEDURESWhat to do if you finish your work early What do I do next? • Work on unfinished Language Arts assignments. • Review vocabulary words • Read AR Book • Start working on tonight’s homework when applicable • Complete and assignment from the “Extra Assignments” board

  18. CLASSROOM PROCEDURESClassroom Discussions • Please participate. • I want to hear what you have to say! • Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion. • If your question is off the topic write it down and ask later.

  19. CLASSROOM PROCEDURESMoving around the room • Do not move around during a classroom discussion or while I am giving instructions unless it is an emergency, so do not even ask! • Pencil sharpening etc. should ALL be taken care of BEFORE the bell tardy bell rings! • During independent seat work, partner work, or small group work you may sharpen your pencil or get a tissue if absolutely necessary!! YOU SHOULD NOT BE OUT OF YOUR SEAT FOR ANY OTHER REASON OR FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME!! • IF you must get up to do this, 2 people may be on the floor at one time.

  20. CLASSROOM PROCEDURESClass dismissal • I will dismiss you, not the clock! • Do not start packing up prior to me dismissing you. • Wait until I finish and officially dismiss you with, “Have a nice day!” “Make it a good day!”

  21. Remember… I believe in you with all of my heart and want you to succeed in everything you do. That is why I am here and why I push you like I do. I want you to believe in yourselves, too! Lets have a fantastic, amazingly, wonderfully, terrific, best of all years ever!!! -Your Favorite… Mrs. Walling 
