  6. Mountains • The Andes Mountains run through the western coast line of South America. • The Andes mountains are the longest mountain range in the world and only the Himalaya Mountains are taller. • The highest point in South America and the western hemisphere is Aconcagua at 22,843ft.

  7. Strait • The Strait of Magellan is the only strait between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

  14. Climate(Cont.) • The desert region of Chile is the driest part of South America • The highest temperature of South America was recorded in Gran Chaco in Argentina with temperatures around 110 degrees • Tropical climate

  15. Climate(Cont.) • The wettest place is Quibdo in Colombia with 350 inches of rain per year • Every 2 to 7 years the cold, dry Peru current weakens and warm waters from the south cause El Nino. • It causes heavy rainfall in the driest parts of South America
