  6. Enterprise M3 Economy • 1,041,100 population • 635,700 people of working age • 57,000 business • 537,100 jobs • Higher GVA growth than London in last ten years – 100% positive change in GVA (London 87%) • Contribute £25 billion to UK economy

A key role for the Private Sector • Government view – LEPs must be led by business • 50/50 private sector/public sector split with a business chair • Business involvement will; • identify business issues and priorities for the area • ensure that existing businesses are supported • create the right environment for growth • attract inward investment

  8. Business Support • Good business support to date – • Government pleased with the level of business involvement – so far • However…this is just the start…

Proposed Structure • Board with a business chair • 8 businesses/business support organisations representatives • 8 public sector representatives, • Implementation Group • This is the delivery/support group including representation from Businesses, Business Organisations, Local Authorities, Action-Group Leads • LEP Priority Action-groups • Project groups to deliver priorities • Skills, finance, transport, innovation, broadband, rural, business support….others? • Sector specific support groups • Priorities to be established
