    3. Embedded Control Solutions 3 History To design and build custom control systems, for industries in Scotland. In 1984 we began to take on debug and repair work. With the advent of the PC, we added computer software design and networking to our portfolio. Today with the experience gained since our foundation, we believe that we have acquired the skills and knowledge to offer our clients the best control system design service available.

    5. Embedded Control Embedded Microprocessors are found in ever increasing products. Any product that requires logic or has a need to communicate to its user will most likely require some form of Micro processor, DSP or PIC Micro. We have the skills to advise our clients as to the best and most cost effective solution for their product and market. We can design and build the hardware, and design the software. BEC Systems were approached by VT Merlin communications and asked if they could design a windows based workstation that would communicate with VT Merlins 1980s transmitter control system based on Z80 micro controllers with each control element networking via a pseudo HDLC protocol. The scope was extended when BEC Systems were later asked to include the flexibility to make it possible for multiple stations to be controlled remotely. Case Study 2 Client - DDS Project - Design Main Processor Board Skills design artwork testing Timescales- 2-3 months Value- 16K Client - Directional Data Systems asked BEC Systems to design their main processor board for their DT10 ticket dispensing machine. Project - Their requirements were it had to be Ethernet ready, have four serial ports,2 cash drawer control sockets and be able to incorporate 2 different makes of printer It should also be able to communicate to the display and input board. Windows Orcad was used for the circuit schematics and Tsien Boardmaker 3 for the Artwork design and layout. Although not responsible for the software BEC Systems had to write some embedded software for test purposes. This was written in Embedded C.
