“IF YOU CAN’T FIND A WAY. MAKE ONE” Life is so hard. Most of the time, we feel that there is no way for us. Like we are walking on a road with no idea where we want to go? We have no clue what is our destination…..what is the mean of our life? But defying all these things, on his dying bed; he said “If You Can’t Find A Way….Make One”. This magical and motivational words said by the great Dasarath Manjhi famoused by the name of “The Mountain Man”. “If You Can’t Find a Way, than Make One” An inspiration for many, Dasarath Manjhi who was born in Gehlaur village near Gaya, Bihar. He belongs to a poor daily labourer class family was married of his childhood. As the time passed, he returned to his village after working in Dhanbad coal mine for seven years. Tale of Love Coming to his village after long time, he fell heel of love with a village girl, Falguni Devi that turned to be his childhood bride. But her father refused to send his daughter with a jobless man. Manjhi do all the efforts to bring his bride in his life and at the end he get success. Hurdel in Village As Gehlaur was a small backward village, there is caste system prevail. People who belongs to low caste treated badly by the upper cast or leaders of village.
Also, there were lack of systems, educations, facilities and development. These are like aliens for them. To fulfil their daily needs or transport connectivity, villagers need to cross a huge mountain. That was a big challenge for the people but they do and survive on those situations. Tragic Life Change Falguni, Dasrath’s wife was pregnant for the second baby, was taking lunch for her husband to the filed got slipped and fell down from the mountain. They took her to the hospital which were 70km far, declared to be dead but she gave birth to a baby girl. Revenge Begins Manjhi, who loved his wife more than anything else was totally shattered and broken up. To take a revenge to the mountain, he started cursing the huge mountain which was an impossible mission. But he decided to curve a path from the mountain that no other person suffers the pain as like his wife. People in villagers declared him mad but he didn’t give up on his firm decision. To his journey, he faces many of the problems like physically, mentally, even politically pressure but Manjhi didn’t give up and continue to his work. As year passes, to see his efforts and unconditional love her passed wife, people also fell his feelings and join him. Efforts With Positive Result After the toil of 22 years, he carved out 55kms path between the mountains than can be covered within 15 minutes. Finally, a new morning began when government roped-in to make a road by carving the mountain. Famous Manjhi In 2006, Dasrath Manjhi’s name was proposed for the Padma Shree Award in Social Service Sector. At the age of 73, on august 2007 he passed away. In 2011, government officially named the road as “Dasarath Manjhi Road” and gave a name “Dasarath Manjhi- The Mountain Man” nothing is impossible in life.
