LLB + LLM + BA LLB + BBA LLB LL.B. is the most common law degree offered and conferred by Indian universities which has a duration of three years. Almost all law universities follow a standard LL.B. curriculum, wherein students are exposed to the required bar subjects. LLM is a postgraduate degree in law. Master of Law or LLM course offered at Indian colleges/ universities is of two years duration. The course curriculum of LLM degree is structured in such a way that the law course is divided into four semesters. In Master of Law, course aspirants gain in-depth knowledge of a specific field of law by intensive research in that particular area of Law. BA LLB (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws) is a professional integrated law course which is suitable for students who want to become a lawyer, an advocate, a legal advisor, or want to make a career in law and judiciary. You can pursue this 5 years course right after passing Class XII. BA LLB subjects include both Arts/Humanities subjects such as Sociology, Philosophy, History, Political Science, etc. and Law subjects such as Family Law, International Law, Constitutional Law, etc. Apart from these theory subjects, practical training is also provided in the form of moot courts, case studies, research work, and law internships, which makes this course interactive and interesting.
Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Legislative Law (BA LLB) is a five-years course on completion of which the aspirants are offered a professional degree. BBA LLB is an integrated law course wherein aspirants are taught subjects related to Business Administration as well as Law. As part of a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) LLB course aspirants are first taught Commerce subjects such as Principles of Management, Financial Accounting, Computer Applications, Effective Communication etc. Thereafter, aspirants are taught law subjects like Law of Torts, Family Law, Constitutional Law, Property Law, Company Law, Administrative Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law, and the likes. The maximum duration within which an aspirant must complete their BBA LLB course is eight years. Eligibility Criteria for Application If you want to pursue law after Class XII, then you should have scored at least 45% in Class XII and qualify the entrance test required for admission in courses like BA LLB, BCom LLB, BBA LLB, etc. which is 5 years. If you are already a graduate (any stream and any course), then you simply can pursue LLB in three years through qualifying the required entrance exams. The LL.M. program can be pursued only by the students who have successfully completed their under-graduation in law i.e. 5 Year LL.B. Degree course under 10+2+5 from any recognized university with at least minimum aggregate marks as per institutes requirement.
Average course fees for this course across West Bengal and other places in India The average course fees of LLB course ranges from INR 22,000-2,00,000 per annum. While this may vary from college to college depending on infrastructure, prestige and other factors. An LL.M. program is of two years duration. The average tuition fee for the course ranges from INR 1 to 6 Lacs. Entrance Test for admission in this course is conducted for admission of students in the LLM degree course. Diverse Career Opportunities After pursuing the course, candidates can opt for further studies wherein they pursue either MPhil or PhD in Law. Aspirants are informed that in order to practice law in India they need to clear the All India Bar Exam (AIBE). Advocate: In such a job profile one needs to do a lot of research work to gather factual data as well as physical evidence to support their claim. Apart from this, other responsibilities allocated to advocates include scrutinising and drafting contracts. Solicitor: In such a job profile an individual usually specialises in a specific area of law like tax, litigation, family or property. Solicitors offer legal advice to private as well as commercial clients. Judge: In such a job profile one has to ensure that justice is administered and legal rights of all the involved parties are safeguarded. A judge presides over trials/ hearings wherein they listen to the case presented by lawyers.
Legal Advisor: Candidates opting to work in such a job profile are also lawyers who specialise in a specific field of law. Legal advisors are usually hired by governments as well as large organisations/ companies. The main task of a legal advisor is to protect their clients from any legal implication or consequence. Notary Public: Individuals are hired in such a job profile by the central government for the whole or specific part of the country. Any person who has been practicing law (as a lawyer) for a minimum ten years is eligible to apply for a notary post. Average Pay Package The Bachelor of Laws [LLB] and Master of Law [LLM] Course Salary ranges from 3 lakhs to 1 crore per annum depending on a variety of factors. It differs based on the seniority and experience of the aspirant, the skillset, and abilities of the individual, his or her diligence and hard work as well as adaptability to the work environment.
Placement Scope There is a wider scope after LLB and LLM because these degrees offer expert and subject-oriented coursework. LLM is a specialised degree, hence, LLM holders often land onto jobs which are subject oriented. Thus, pursuing an LLM degree opens promising career avenues in the legal sector. After completion of the LLM degree, there are career options in the legal field pertaining to both the public and private sectors. Both the sectors hire LLM degree holders who are professionals with a good knowledge of the subject. An acute shortage of qualified lawyers has been a major problem in India. The Bar Council of India has often expressed its concern that young lawyers do not join the Bar. There are nearly ten lakh lawyers in India but according to law experts only 20 percent of them can be considered fit enough to practice law in courts. However, India is a country with one of the highest litigation rates among its population and Sir Ivor Jennings termed the Indian Constitution “a lawyer’s paradise.” Talented lawyers will never have to worry about their income.
