Trends in Education • Years ago, one teacher would teach many grades in a one-room school, students walked to school, and went home for lunch. • Later grades were split into different rooms with a teacher for each room, & transportation, food, and health care professionals provided. What jobs were created by this? Teachers, aides, counselors, school nurse, administrators, secretaries, architects, construction and maintenance workers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, etc.
Education Trend • Now classes can be taught via the Internet and video conference between schools. How does this change jobs? • Teachers must have technology training and someone has to set up the technology at schools. What jobs are created? IT/network technicians, computer technicians and programmers, Web and technical support specialists, etc.
Technology Trend in Jobs How are jobs changing due to technology? • People use faster means of travel to attend meetings OR • Stay at home or at their office and use videoconferencing, e-mail, chat, networking, podcasting, phone, and fax to communicate.
