Evaluation: Question 3 What have I learned from my audience feedback?
Before I had started creating the poster, the digipak and the music video for my A2 coursework, I had made some research on the audience I would like to target. My starting point was to create simple questionnaire with 10 questions. The focus of the questions was to see what would be the responses from the audience over 18-24 years old. What I was pleased with was that over 90% of the responses were answered by teen audience.
The Questionnaire Fact No 1 To create my Questionnaire I used SurveyMonkey. There I was able to analyze what were my responses and what I found interesting was that the variety of the answers were saying that Rock genre is the most popular (90%) amongst the teen audience. It is followed with 10% by Pop, Techno and House. This answers helped me to get the basis of the genre I would use for my music video at the beginning of the year. Fact No 2 Another interesting fact was that the variety of responses has answered that they listen to music regularly. That meant that I had to look for a song which will be interesting and new for the audience to listen. However, the results show that really low percentage of the young audience do not watch music videos, so I had to think how and what conventions I should use to make the audience to like my video and my project. However, from looking the results from the day I posted the video, I manage to get 334 views in 1 day. That can only be seen as a successfully used and applied conventions in the video. Furthermore, during my research of what song should I be using for my video, the responses of the audience helped me a lot. Few of the questions asked what is their favorite song or artist and because the questions had an open answer, I manage to look closely at every suggestions and to choose the song from there.
The Video After few days of consideration I chose which song I wanted to use. I was happy with the song, but I wasn’t sure whether the Western European Audience would like it. That is why I made an audience research video where I played the song to a Spanish boy called Pablo Sanchez and an English boy called Rudy Agboden. Their responses help me to build the main story of my video and the stereotypes that I wanted to use.
The First Interview The first interview was with Pablo Sanchez, whose reference of music are country and classical rock, classical music. His comments on the song were that the song is really catchy and that it sends a positive message to the audience. He liked the most the variety of eastern European rhythms which create a positive mood. Moreover, he mentioned how well the band has applied folk instrument to a punk genre song. Moreover, he imagine that the video will focus on the stereotypes of an Eastern European man such as the amount of alcohol they consume, immigrated people and so on and so forth.
The Second Interview Similar thoughts did Rudy Agboden shared with me. He liked the story behind the song. How people living in poverty would like to move to another country such as America, where they will be able to find a nice job and get good salaries. Moreover, he liked the meaning behind the lyrics which is how nothing can be compared with the homeland. He also mentioned the way which he imagine would an Eastern European men would look in the video. The characteristic he pointed out are to have a long beard, wearing cheap sport kit to illustrate that they are from the middle class and they have to be tall.
Promotion When I started editing my video, I decided it would be a good idea to promote my product to the audience just to see what would be their reaction. I used Facebook to share a sneak peak of the beginning of the video and the comments were amazing. The comments were saying how people can’t wait for the premiere of the video, how good it was looking and it almost got 100 likes and reaction. The promotion video did well in terms of encourage the audience to watch the final product.
Conclusion Overall, I was pleased from all the comments and ideas that my audience shared with me! For my main product I will use different stereotypes such as Eastern European man like to drink with friends. Moreover, they will have a facial hair and they will wear sport kit.
