National Partnership for Careers in Public Safety and Security • This experience includes developing and managing academies, providing courses and educational materials, building partnerships, and creating small learning communities that exist as schools within schools or as magnet schools. The mission of the National Partnership is to assist schools, communities, and other stakeholders in building and improving smaller learning communities focused on careers in law, public safety, and security.
National Partnership for Careers in Public Safety and Security • In 1999, the U.S. Department of Justice helped initiate the development of the National Partnership for Careers in Public Safety and Security for academies and similar small learning communities focused on students interested in the broad career areas of law, public safety, and security. The National Partnership builds on years of experience of a variety of organizations and individuals.
Philosophy • The National Partnership for Careers in Public Safety and Security is founded on the belief that one key to educational and life success for many students is participation in smaller learning communities that provide nurturing environments and focus on a meaningful future with personal planning to help make that future happen. To do this, the National Partnership emphasizes three key strategies in its assistance work:
Philosophy 1. Building partnerships that help identify student and community needs for developing and supporting a variety of career-oriented learning communities that focus on the broad career areas of law, public safety, and security;
Philosophy 2. Creating in-school, small learning communities that foster key values and life skills, integrate career learning with academic subjects, and provide a sense of belonging and ownership to the participating students, teachers, administrators, and partners;
Philosophy 3. Providing preparation for, and experiences with, postsecondary education and learning experiences in the professions in which the student has the most interest.
Philosophy • The National Partnership is not a membership organization but a technical assistance group built around people and organizations that are currently involved in the targeted careers, managing the small learning communities, or involved in helping students learn. Anyone can get involved.
