Texas Staffing – Moving Target • Many agencies are pulling from the same pool (federal, state, local) • To maintain a quality workforce, APD standards are high: • Only one of seven applicants is accepted • 12 Month Recruiting/Training Timeline • An average of four sworn personnel retire or resign each month

  22. Texas Staffing Model • Priority 1 and Emergency Calls now make up about 43% of Patrol Workload (compared to 36% in 2002) • The average Priority 1 Call is now 71 minutes (vs. 60 minutes in 2002) • According to the Patrol Staffing Model, we are currently about 55 officers below optimum

Texas Go Forward Strategy • Address Staffing Needs • 12 Officers approved in FY 08 Budget • 48 Officers (Patrol, HEAT, etc.) if Crime Control Prevention District is Approved By Voters • Goal is to reduce UCR Part I Crimes by 10% if staffing goals are reached and other initiatives are enacted • Preparations for Entertainment District are continuing
