Balance • Flower size and container flow • Has the same visual weight on each side • Usually in more formal arrangements • Asymmetrical designs do not conform to this standard.
Focal Point • Creates accent and interest • Eye catcher • Unusual flowers • Grouping of flowers • Larger flowers
Proportion • Relative size, color, and texture are appropriate for arrangement • General rule—1 ½ to 2 times the height or width of the container • Points should be buds
Scale • Size of flowers in comparison to room • Size of room • Placement of arrangement
Accent • Draw attention to design • Point of interest
Repetition • Accentuate flowers and colors • Use same types of flowers • Use same flower colors
Rhythm, Harmony, & Unity • All similar • Color • Size • Shape • Flow of arrangement • Completed look
Basic Design Shapes • Circular • Triangular • Horizontal • Crescent • S Curve
