The Machan A promise of seclusion, privacy and Peace We are living at the very beginning of a period cycle where social distancing is used not just to flatten the curve of the virus, but instead as a standard operating practice. What does that mean for your next holiday booking? How will those exciting and bustling theme parks operate? That itself is the challenge that most establishments in the industry are currently grappling with. For us at this family resort in Lonavala, thankfully, this is not a cause for concern. The Machan is a legacy resort now after having served excited, eager and appreciative patrons for over the better part of the last decade. Its geographical positioning, its build values and most importantly its ethos has contributed to providing a thematic experience but with the luxury of peace, tranquillity and voluntary seclusion. Yes, here at this nature resort near Mumbai, we have based our overall service offering around these three sentiments. Being nature centric and sharing space within the bowels of a rain forest goes a long way to help of course. The Offering When we first developed the idea of building tree houses in the middle of a rain forest and asking people to live in them, we were conscious of the fact that our offering must border on the fringes of what a traditional resort has to offer. Of course fun, excitement, adventure and relaxation are common facets which almost every single holiday goer likes to club within one holiday. But at the Machan we chose to ramp up our deliverables to include seclusion, privacy and as a result of those two, peace of mind, body and soul to our patrons.

2. How is this different from other resorts you ask? Well at The Machan, wellness is foremost in our psyche when we tend to our guests. Our policies are shaped and reshaped along the path that affords the guest, maximum peace and seclusion. Our guests come to The Machan partly because being able to live in a tree house is a boyhood dream or fantasy that many of us have had before. But when they leave us, promising to be back soon, they discover a whole different dimension to their stay. Many tell us that they have been able to introspect inherently better over a couple of days spent with in this resort in Lonavala than they have ever managed in a lifetime. Some talk of how they feared boredom with the promise of seclusion and instead discovered and exclusivity with themselves instead. Others comment on how their privacy was breached; but not by us or our well-meaning staff. Instead by the many visitors that the jungle throws up that end up enthralling our guests including insects, birds and sometimes even the occasional monkey eager for a bite and a chat. This is the breach of privacy that our patrons would accept any day over bumping into people they know and they don’t, at other ‘cramped to the brim’ resorts especially during holiday season. How We Offer It SMALL YET HAPPY INVENTORY At The Machan, we stress on quality over numbers. The numbers that we love to count are the smiles on the faces of our guests. We get a thrill from watching a world weary traveller check in and the same person check out looking fresh rejuvenated and at peace with himself. We count our blessings and good wishes. We count our compliments and good reviews. What we don’t keep counting is our inventory build-up. This is probably why when every other successful resort worth their salt is trying to enhance their inventory all we endeavour to do is enhance the experience for our guests. Across all of 29 resort rooms and tree houses. EACH MACHAN SEVERAL METERS AWAY Yes that’s right. If we are to build tree houses 45 feet vertically over ground level in Lonavala, which itself is on a hill, we insist that we want to do it our way. And our way is to protect and respect not just individuality, seclusion and privacy of our guests but also the ecological balance of our host; the land we are built upon. The reason why we have stuck to 29 as a number is because the build design just simply does not allow for close quarters proximity. Each Machan is at least more than a few hundred feet away from each other. You could see them from your window facades but they are not close enough to see into them. So when everyone else is running the rate race of numbers, we are counting on providing an experience instead. Safe to say, it’s held us in good stead for when you want to book your next holiday after spending time in quarantine. PERSONAL ATTENTION TO EVERY DETAIL Having a lower than usual inventory, also allows us to lavish more attention to detail on the guest experience. Everything planned in a package from a nature trail, to a birding session and from yoga on the deck by day to a romantic dinner on the deck by night is a part of the signature ethos to provide the guest with more than their fair share of peace and exclusivity.

If the spa treatment would be more comfortable in your room, we have you covered. If you enjoy interacting with birds and insects, we have an expert on site, who can help enhance your understanding of over 300 species of both indigenous and exotic plant and animal life. COMMUNITY LIVING The Machan, in many ways, is the ideal example of community living where there are a cluster of accommodations in close vicinity but not in the way inhabited by guests who love to do their own thing while still being around to partake in a group event. This perspective helps us to uphold the pillars on which we base our experiences of providing our guests their own space both physically and mentally to enjoy their holiday in the way they would prefer to do so. At The Machan we do not try and sell you a room, a tree house or even an experience. What we graciously and good-heartedly always endeavour to do is help you make memories.
