Marine Biology and Advanced Marine Biology • In Marine Biology, we study tropical reefs, Puget Sound tidepools, and the open ocean habitats. • Advanced Marine Biology looks deeper at ecology issues in Puget Sound and involves independent experimentation at local beaches.
It’s definitely hands-on! • Touch, hold, and examine live marine invertebrate animals! • Dissections! We look at the anatomy of animals from each of the major marine groups • Taste-tests! We integrate with culinary arts!
Field Trips!! • Tidepooling at the beach! • Don’t let the surf make you seasick while onboard the ship! • Explore the local aquariums!
A top-notch facility! • 3 180 gallon tropical tanks including: • Predator tank • Soft coral tank • Reef tank • 55 gallon coldwater system to mimic Puget Sound intertidal environments

Plants (Botany)- Growth, Reproduction and Diversity of Plants Animals (Zoology)- Diversity of Animals on Earth Ecosystems (Ecology)- How plants and animals work together and with their environments
Chemistry I • A strong interest in science and the scientific method/exploring is highly recommended. • Since there is quite a bit of math involved in studying chemistry, you should have taken Integrated II and received a C or better. • We will study what the world is made of, how it interacts with other parts of the world, and why it interacts the way it does. • We will do this through fun demonstrations, teacher and student designed explorations, discussions, readings and notes.

Chemistry II • This class is a continuation of Chemistry I, using the same text book. • Should have received a C or better in Chemistry I or have teacher permission. • Strongly recommended for people who want to take Chemistry in college. • Some topics of study include Kinetic Theory, Thermodynamics, Gas Laws, Chemical Reactions, Reactions Rates and Equilibrium, Acid and Base Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. • We will do this through fun demonstrations, teacher and student designed explorations, discussions, readings and notes.

Physics I or II • Physics is the science of matter, energy, space and time – so pretty much everything! • Physics I is concerned primarily with the study of motion. • Physics II is looks at waves, electricity-magnetism, and modern physics (relativity, string theory, quantum mechanics, nuclear physics)
Physics I or II • Which should you take? • You can take either course first – They do NOT have to go in sequence! It helps, but is not required. • Is there a lot of math in Physics? • Math is the tool physicists use to work on problems, much the way mechanics use wrenches and screwdrivers… So, yes, there is math involved. Be ready to use it and learn new ways of using tools you’ve already learned.
Physics I or II • What are the requirements? • Love of science! Really… • Strong math skills. Trig functions are used heavily in Physics I. • Serious about learning.
