ILT Outbreak 2004 • Feb 2004 – 1 farm with 17,364 birds infected with ILT • 17,045 layers, 221 ducks, 97 roosters, 1 pet parrot • Ministry of Agriculture Expenses • USD 5,350 (rental & transportation of bins, off-site burial) • USD 550 (rental of skid steer loader) • USD 3,900 (equipment, materials, chemicals, ppe) • USD 4,000 (labour - overtime payment, travelling claims) • USD 13,800 = total expense • Compensation to farmer • USD 85,000 = amount paid • Mid 2005 = date of payment

Perm’t Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture 2. NAIMC • During week of April 14th, 2008 – presentations to 1. Minister of Agriculture 2. Minister of Finance 3. Minister of Local Government • Following amendments by the Ministers, a presentation will be made to the T&T Cabinet
T&T AI Compensation Program Meeting • Presentation of the draft T&T AI Compensation Program at the regional level: • On April 2nd, 2008 – presentation to the CARICOM CVOs at the CARICOM CVO Meeting in Antigua • On May, 2008 – presentation to CARICOM COTED • Thereafter, a modified draft T&T model will be presented to the CARICOM Parliamentary Council • Presentations made to each CPA member country, subsequently working toward the development of national drafts in each CARICOM state

T&T AI Compensation Program Meeting • Some areas presently being addressed: • Training of technical staff in avian specie identification by the Wildlife Division, Ministry of Environment • Registration of poultry farms, pluck shops, pet shops, private aviaries by Technical Sub-Committee • Improvement of Veterinary Lab - AI diagnostics • AI surveillance of commercial poultry, backyard poultry and wild birds by Technical Sub-Committee
T&T AI Compensation Program Meeting • Some areas presently being addressed: • Offering of soft loans for improved poultry farm biosecurity measures (bird-proofing of pens) and construction of tunnel-ventilated poultry housing • Ammendment of Laws pertinent to compensation by the Legal Sub-Committee of the NAIMC • Animal Diseases and Importation Act of 1954 • Public awareness campaigns on AI, Improvement of Farm Biosecurity and Cottage Processors Code of Practice by Technical Sub-Committee of the NAIMC
