  3. UNDERSTANDING HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND ANGINA (CHEST PAIN

  4. High blood pressure is a common condition that affects the body's arteries. It's also called hypertension. If you have high blood pressure, the force of the blood pushing against the artery walls is consistently too high. The heart has to work harder to pump blood. • HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

  5. TYPES OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE • Blood pressure is 120/80 mm Hg or lower. • NORMAL BLOOD PRESSURE. • The top number ranges from 120 to 129 mm Hg and the bottom number is below, not above, 80 mm Hg. • ELEVATED BLOOD PRESSURE

  6. The top number ranges from 130 to 139 mm Hg or the bottom number is between 80 and 89 mm Hg. • STAGE 1 HYPERTENSION • STAGE 2 HYPERTENSION • The top number is 140 mm Hg or higher or the bottom number is 90 mm Hg or higher.

  7. SYMPTOMS • Headaches • Shortness of breath • Nosebleeds

  8. ANGINA (CHEST PAIN) • Angina pectoris—or simply angina—is chest pain or discomfort that keeps coming back. It happens when some part of your heart doesn't get enough blood and oxygen. Angina can be a symptom of coronary artery disease (CAD). This occurs when arteries that carry blood to your heart become narrowed and blocked because of atherosclerosis or a blood clot.

  9. SYMPTOMS • Burning • Fullness • Pressure • Squeezing

  10. CAUSES • Angina is caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscle. Blood carries oxygen, which the heart muscle needs to survive. When the heart muscle isn't getting enough oxygen, it causes a condition called ischemia.
