Education Abroad Program (EAP) China, Hong Kong, Taiwan Information Session
The Center forInternational Education EAP - UC’s Education Abroad Program • We’ll tell you all about it today! IOP - UCI’s International Opportunities Program • Study, Work, Intern, Volunteer, Research, and Teach • Good alternative if EAP doesn’t work for you • Still earn credit and receive financial aid
Why Study Abroad? • Increased personal growth, language proficiency, cultural awareness • Academic challenge and reward • Graduate school, career, & resume enhancement: Less than 2% of American college students actually study abroad, which makes YOU stand out! • Travel opportunities • Meet new people, make new friends • Don’t let the experience of a lifetime pass you by!
Why Study on EAP? • The Regents of the University of California have recognized the need to incorporate an international experience into your UC degree. • EAP is part of UC. You are not taking time off, but maintain your UCI status while abroad. • UCI wants you to go abroad!
Will I get credit? Yes! • All course work abroad on EAP earns UC credit, not transfer credit. • Courses and grades are listed on your UCI transcript. • Courses taken on EAP can fulfill major, minor, and/or breadth requirements. Make “normal” progress towards your degree with careful planning.
Can I afford it? If you can afford UC, you can afford EAP! • Students pay the SAME UC fees! • In many cases the cost is comparable to studying at UCI. • UCI financial aid goes with you abroad! • Your financial aid is recalculated based on the budget for your program (includes airfare, pre-departure expenses, etc.) • Special EAP scholarships help offset any higher cost.
Is there support abroad? Definitely! • A Study Center Director (or designated UC liaison officer) administers the program and is responsible for the academic and personal well-being of EAP students.
