1. Deception of the Church If you think about it the devil masqueraded as an angel of light. We often expect the devil to be red, complete with horns and a pitchfork, but his appearance is best known as one of glory and beauty. Many of us rely on the bible as a measurement of the truth, but is it? Deception begins with adding to and taking away, it may involve altering the World of God. Often a person is not aware that they have been deceived. All sin is considered rebellion, but not all sins feel or like like rebellion to that person, especially if they have been deceived. The person deceived belies that they are following the works of the Lord, yet they could be aiding and abetting the devil. Deception is one of the most powerful tools of the devil, he can get people to advance his cause without them realizing it. Deceptions are very dangerous as even the church has been deceived over the centuries. You expect a church to be a place of worship, of peace and joy. Deception is something you cannot see, therefore you need to ask God to hep you see what you need to change and forgive you for any errors you have made. The devil plays on our imperfect minds and our reasoning abilities, making us believe we are serving the truth, when we are in fact doing the opposite. The truth appears as a lie and the lie appears as the truth. Just because you feel something is common sense, does not mean its true, even if it feels as though it is an obvious fact. One of the top deceptions of the church is “If it Succeeds, It must Have Been Gods Will.” Just because something is accomplished to its intended outcome does not justify its means. We do this in the church. Some believe this as the truth due to the fact that churches are growing at an exponential rate. Success is actually the faithfulness to Gods Word. This improves spiritual growth. The next deception of the church is that the bible must be made to be relevant culturally. This is subtle deception. The function of preaching is to share the words of the bible. The bible is already culturally relevant with the bible being timeless, ageless and powerful. The belief that the bible should be adapted and altered is deceptive, missing the meaning of the text and paraphrasing it. This is exceptionally dangerous as paraphrases are treated as authoritative in preaching and teaching. This deception is undermining the sufficiency of the bible with many losing confidence in Gods Word and being creative and intending new methodologies. A further deception is that you can worship God how you wish. Many people will say this with the assumption about church worship today. Worship is not about personal preference, it is defined by God with principles that are governed to how worshiping should be done. Deceptions of the church also include that what is preached is what is needed by the listener. The apostles were not told to only preach what people wanted to hear, they were told to preach the Word of God. It's important for the church to share the words of the bible consistently so we can reduce the risk of deception. The biggest deception in the church is the church itself and how it has been deceived by false prophets who have changed the scriptures to deceive the masses and not share the teachings that Jesus was sent to teach us. Some of these prophets, mentioned in today's bible were not prophets at all, in fact they had never met Jesus.
