Philosophy "Give customers the freshest, highest quality foods you can buy and provide them with friendly service in a sparkling clean environment." - Harry and Esther Snyder
History • In 1948, the first In-N-Out Burger was founded by Harry and Esther Snyder in Baldwin Park (California). • Harry Snyder's death in 1976, there were only 18 drive-thru locations. Rich (their son) took over as President, and with Guy's help (their son too), established a commissary at the Baldwin Park • While Rich was President, In-N-Out grew from those 18 locations in 1976 to 93 locations at the time of his death in 1993. Guy Snyder became Chairman of the Board and CEO in 1993. • Guy Snyder led In-N-Out into the future with continued expansion throughout California, Nevada and Arizona. While Guy was Chairman of the Board, In-N-Out grew from 93 locations to 140 at the time of his death in 1999. • In-N-Out remains privately owned and the Snyder family has no plans to take the company public or franchise any units.
Location Located exclusively in the Southwest with restaurants in California, Arizona, and Nevada, with future plans for expansion in southern Utah.
Store Layout The majority of the store locations all have the same layout but some are unique, allowing them to fit into the surrounding architecture, or to stand out. Example, Fisherman’s Warf in San Francisco.
Corporate standpoint • In-N-Out pays its employees more than the federally mandated minimum wage of $5.15 per hour and California's minimum wage of $7.50 per hour — currently starting pay is a minimum of $9.50 per hour. • For its full-time associates, the company offers complete employee benefit, and provides 'fringe' benefits in the form of annual company picnic, gifts at Christmas, the opportunity to participate in a variety of other company-sponsored activities, as well as paid holidays and paid vacations.
The In-N-Out Burger Foundation • Since 1984, In-N-Out Burger has been helping abused children. • The foundation was established in March 1995 as a nonprofit foundation. The Foundation’s purpose is to assist children who have been victims of child abuse, and to prevent others from suffering a similar fate. The Foundation supports organizations that are involved in the prevention, residential treatment, emergency shelter, foster care, intervention, and education regarding child abuse. • The Foundation is supported primarily through donor contributions, including those resulting from fundraising activities sponsored by In-N-Out Burgers. 100% of your donations go directly to help abused and neglected children. In-N-Out pays all costs associated with the Foundation so that every penny raised goes directly to the children.
