  3. PART “A” Proposal for Presently Approved District of National Horticulture Mission. 1. Mango Area Expansion :- In the year 2005-06 Executive Council of N.H.M. approved Mango crop for Rejuvenation, Organic Farming, & INM/IPM component. Mango area expansion is proposed within the NHM selected districts. Justification for Inclusion of Area Expansion : 1- Mango is agro climatically very suitable in selected distgricts. 2- Commercial varieties- Dasheri, Langbra, Bombay green, Chausa and Sunderja of Madhya Pradesh are very popular in the big market and grown in large area. 3- Economically mango is profitable species. 4- Mango plants survival is very high due its deep root system. 5- Madhya Pradesh State have very good clones in Mother Trees Resource Station.

Expansion of Cluster Area for Aonla & Chilli Crops : • Aonla : Six districts of 18 districts not covered with any perennial fruit crops. • The districts are : Indore, Dhar, Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur and Dewas. Aonla plantation is proposed in these six districts. Hon’ble Union State Minister of Agriculture, has been assured to farmers of Khargone district that Aonla will be included in Khargone district under N.H.M.   8. Chilli : • Chilli is common and most popular spice and it is grown every where. Every farmer does not come forward for plantation crop. Small and marginal farmers belonging to SC/ST farmers category are showing lot of interest in Chilli crop. • Chilli produce processing is very common in Cottage Industries. A large number of self-help groups are making Chilli powder and getting substantial employment opportunities. • Gramodhyog Department of Madhya Pradesh is encouraging marketing of chilli, coriander, garlic paste, turmeric & ginger powder with collaboration of Hindustan Lever ltd. These processed products are branded as Vindhya Valley. Contd..........

Justification for Inclusion of Guava, Custard apple & Ber in NHM Districts 1- Wide agro climatic adoptability. 2- Hardy and resistant to drought. 3- Less requirement of nutrient and irrigation water. 4- Less infestation of pest and diseases in comparison to other fruit crops. 5- Growing consumer demand. 6- Local marketing is very common. 7- Guava is best species for river & nala-bed plantation. 8- Ber & Custard apple are best species for waste and barren land plantation. 9- Good growth performance in undulating & hilly type land. 10- Primary farmers choice looking to less crop management required. 11- Good yield without intensive care. Contd.......... 12- Ber Produce have longer keeping quality. 13- Ber produce (Ber powder) is new choice of consumer’s. 14- Increasing demand of custard apple powder for Ice cream industry. 15- Grower’s of Guava, Custard apple and Ber are getting good prices for their produce. 16- Low gestation period.

  20. PART “B” Proposal for Integrated Development of Horticulture in Tribal, Hilly Areas Mandla & Dindori Districts. In the Annual Action Plan 2005-06 Rs. 2.00 crores allocation was proposed for two districts Mandla & Dindori under Central Sector Scheme on Integrated Development of Horticulture in Tribal, Hilly areas. Total Action Plan for the year 2005-06 was given in principle approval . Accordingly State Mission has released Rs. 50.00-50.00 lakhs to both districts. State Mission has requested GOI to sanction and release for two tribal, hilly area districts. Rs. 100.00-100.00 lakhs proposed for both of the districts for 2006-07. Techno economic feasibility report is being submitted separately.

  21. PART “C” Proposal for Six New Districts under National Horticulture Mission. 20 districts out of 48 districts were selected as focus districts for National Horticulture Mission in the year 2005-06. Six new district are also proposed for inclusion under National Horticulture Mission. Justification : 1- In the first Mission document these potential districts were ignored. 2- Data for area and production clearly indicates that good potential exist for productivity improvement as well as area expansion.
