El Presente Progresivo Estar + the present participle. Describes what is happening right now.
The present participle (el gerundio) • Regular –ar verbs add –ando • Besar—besando • Regular –er and –ir verbs add –iendo • Correr—corriendo • Escupir--escupiendo
Examples: • Los Kings están jugando. • Shawn está manejando su RX8. • Yo estoy abrazando a mi hijo. • Tú estás subiendo la escalera.

The Present Perfect in English • The verb have/has + past participle • Used to describe recent events: • I have (just) eaten a worm. • They’ve (just) hit me. • Also used to describe a completed event in the past without indicating when it happened. • I’ve climbed Mt. Everest. (Sometime) • We’ve never smoked.
In Spanish the present perfect is formed by Haber + past participle.
Regular Past Participles • -AR verbs cut off the –ar and add –ado • Tirar—tirado • -ER verbs cut off the –er and add –ido • Comer—comido • -IR verbs cut off the –ir and add –ido • Dormir--dormido
Examples: • Tucker hacorrido enfrente del carro. • Tucker hasrun in front of the car. • Hecaído. • I havefallen. • Los hombres hancomido la carne. • The men haveeaten the meat. • ¿Hasleído el libro? • Have you read the book?
The Future Tense What we are goingto do.
One way to express the future in Spanish is to use the verb Ir—It is irregular, so it looks weird.
To express the future, use a form of the verb Ir + a + an infinitive (dictionary form of a verb). • (Yo) voya cortar el queso. • I’m goingto cut the cheese. • Ella vaa leer los documentos hoy. • She is goingto read the documents today. • (Nosotros) vamosa bailar la jula. • We are goingto dance the hula.
