Adverb • An adverb is any word that modifies any part of the language except for nouns, verbs, and other adverb.
Adverb • Adverbs usually answer questions such as How? When? Where? and Why? • The easiest adverbs to recognize are the ones that end with – ly • Adjectives can modify only nouns and pronouns. Adverbs modify everything else.
Examples of adverbs • The abjectly hobo took the little boys food and ate it in his face ferociously. • Scientists make conjectures among themselves before doing experiments.
More Examples • The students looked at each other dejectedly after realizing that they failed their test. • My sister, Michelle, injects the medications to my mother. • In summers I like to sit on the jetty, fishing there for hours while relaxing and getting a tan.
Verbs The part of speech that expresses any action or occurrence.
