Big Boquillas Wind ProjectPhase 1A and 1B The Big Boquillas Wind Project will be located on the Big Boquillas Ranch in northern AZ, which is located near Seligman, AZ approximately 80 miles west of Flagstaff, AZ. Phase 1A and 1B will be located on the Aubrey Cliffs.
Key Elements of the Project • Phase 1A and 1B will be located on checkerboard land on Aubrey Cliffs. Tribal fee land and AZ State land • Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) will be the Navajo Nation lead on the project, partnering with Edison Mission Energy and Foresight Wind Energy
Key Elements of the Project • The lease agreement for Phase 1A and 1B were approved by the Navajo Nation Council in December 2009 and signed by President Shirley on January 15, 2010 • The Navajo Nation, through NTUA, will have 51% ownership of the project
Key Elements of the Project • A portion of the electricity generated from the project will be sold to the Navajo people through NTUA • Revenue streams established for: • Navajo Nation • NTUA • Development partners • State of Arizona
First Steps in Creating a Paradigm Shift • Navajo Nation’s first tribally-owned Green Energy generation project • Navajo Preference in Employment Act and Business Opportunity Act will apply creating jobs for the Navajo people • Enables the Navajo Nation to generate electricity to help meet the Tribe’s utility needs • Support Tribal Utility to meet infrastructure needs
