Childhood • Born January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi - USA • Growing up with divorced parents, Oprah came from a humble background. • Oprah was sexually molested by male relatives at a young age and could not get away from it until she was 14 when Oprah moved to live with her father in Nashville Tennessee.

  3. Teenage Life • Winfrey struggled with drugs and rebellious behavior and lost a baby after giving birth to it prematurely. • She eventually got back on her feet after being awarded a University Scholarship

  4. Education • Oprah studied at the Tennessee State University and received a BA in Speech and Performing Arts. • Oprah became involved in several groups and pursued her interests in media and journalism while at University. • she graduated as an honors student

  5. Becoming Popular • Oprah’s career in the media industry began as a news anchor and reporter for a television station in Nashville Tennessee. • Oprah was the first black African American woman to be a television anchor women at the young age of 19.
