A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COMPANY • Warner Bros. Pictures Inc. is an American film production and distribution studio who were founded in Los Angeles on the 4th of April 1923 by Polish immigrant brothers Harry Warner, Albert Warner, Sam Warner and Jack L. Warner. • In 1927, they released the first ever ‘talkie’, a motion picture with synchronized sound, named ‘The Jazz Singer’ starring Al Jolson. This included little sound dialogue although did feature a short segment of Jolson singing. Sadly, one of the founders, Sam Warner died before the film was released. • They are now headquartered at The Warner Bros. Studios complex in Burbank, California, America.
PRODUCTS • Warner Bros. are most known for their film studio division. However, Warner Bros, Consumer Products also creates franchise that is used all around the world. This includes an award-winning range of toys, fashion, home décor and publishing inspired by franchises and properties such as DC, J.K Rowling’s Wizarding World and Looney Tunes. They have also diversified into animation, television and video games. WHO ARE THEY OWNED BY? • Warner Bros are owned by formerly known as Time Warner who are the world’s third-largest entertainment company behind Comcast and Disney. • They also own Turner (home to digital media such as CNN) and Home Box Office, HBO (who aired hit shows such as ‘Game of Thrones’). • These three divisions aided Time Warner create revenues of nearly $30 billion in 2016. • They changed their name from Time Warner to WarnerMedia after its merge with AT&T. • Warner Communications merged with Time Incorporated, publisher of Sports Illustrated, Fortune, and People magazine, in 1989.
