The Palmer Raids • Attorney General, A. Mitchell Palmer, is convinced of a communist plot against USA. • 10,000 radicals arrested, many deported • Violated civil rights
Sacco and Vanzetti Case 1920-27 • 2 Italian Anarchists are accused of robbery & murder in Braintree, MA • The Judge & Jury convicted them mainly because of their political views • They were sentenced to death
The men appealed the case in a higher court to no avail. • Leftists held rallies worldwide to protest the sentence. • The men were executed in 1927.
