Extra Information Grades are not based solely on averages of percentages from tests. Most of your child’s report card grade will come from observations, subject area notebooks, and class work with a few tests throughout. A student earning an A would be one that demonstrates consistent application of concepts, ideas, objectives, or behaviors. The only difference between a B and a C is that a C student is in the process of understanding concepts, ideas, objectives, or behaviors, and a B student demonstrates a clear understanding of these same things. This year, report cards WILL NOT be sent home with students. Report card distribution AND conferences will be held on specified report card distribution dates.
Homework Policy Homework will be assigned Monday-Thursday Homework needs to be completed and shown each morning. In addition to their math homework, your child is expected to read approximately 20 minutes a night, reading any piece of literature that interests them and complete a reading reflection.
Additional Policies If your child has a birthday and you wish to celebrate it in some way at school, please feel free to bring something in over their lunch. You can send it in with your child in the morning or check in at the office during our lunch and they will let you take it directly into the lunchroom. A new requirement is that it cannot be homemade. There needs to be some kind of sticker visible which shows the ingredients (for our students with allergies…)
Get Involved Feel free to visit our classroom anytime. We always welcome parents who would like to come in and assist with field day, field trips, etc. Although we have a nice classroom library already, we love to have your used children’s books to add to it. If you have books appropriate to 3rd grade that you would like to donate, please send them in!
Contact Information You can always email us through the Yates’ website or call the school at anytime and we will return your call as quickly as we can. Please keep in mind we are with your child each day until 2:15 so we would be returning calls after dismissal.
Thank You Thank you for making the beginning of this school year so successful already. We look forward to a wonderful experience with your child this year. Please let us know if there is anything we can help you with or if you have any questions or concerns.
